Palma de Mallorca Airport is one of Europe’s busiest airports. Last year more than 21.1 million passengers passed through the gates of Mallorca Airport and visitor numbers to Spain have already gone up by 7.5% in the first six months of 2011, compared to the same period last year. Mallorca’s airport is the third largest aviation hub in Spain, only Madrid and Barcelona’s airports are larger.
Major international airlines offer flights to Mallorca Airport, with Air Europa and Air Berlin being perhaps the busiest in terms of passenger numbers, but Ryanair, Spanair, AlbaStar, Brussels Air, BMI-baby, Flybe, Finnair, Germanwings, Lufthansa, Ryanair, Jet2, Vueling and Monarch also get their fair share of European and Spanish holidaymakers and business travellers visiting the Balearic Islands.
Travelling by bus, taxi or car to Mallorca Airport is quick and convenient, as an extensive road network links the airport with Palma and the Island’s many resorts. The main route is the Palma – Santanyi motorway. Mallorca Airport parking is located just opposite the terminals, providing some 5,700 parking spaces for passengers and visitors in a vast car park building.
The long and short term parking at Mallorca Airport is separated into four different areas. Since more than 8 different car hire companies serve the airport, their offices, parking spaces and drop off points are conveniently located on the ground floor of this building. Motorists have a choice between short-term parking, express parking, VIP parking and long-term parking. Each area also offers parking spaces for disabled motorists and people with mobility issues.
Fortunately for families with small children and visitors with much luggage the main parking area is within just a few moments walking distance of the terminal buildings. There is a direct link between the fourth floor departures area and the parking areas.
For short-term Mallorca Airport parking there are some 3,180 parking spaces on the floors catering for passengers and visitors. Parking in the short-term parking area is free for the first 30 minutes, so anyone just picking up or dropping off passengers should use the parking spaces in this area. On the fifth and sixth floors of this parking building there are also some 1,660 paid public parking spaces available.
The Express Car Park is the closest to the terminal buildings and can be found just outside the arrivals area. There are surveillance cameras for added security and automatic payment machines are located in convenient locations. In this area there is also a manned station where payments can be made.
Other parking spaces are available through VIP parking services, and this is convenient for passengers in a hurry, since one can leave the car outside the departures terminal building and the VIP parking service will park it in a secure area on the passenger’s behalf.
Long-term Mallorca Airport parking is charged at the rate of Euro 10.80 per day for the first four days, from the fifth day onwards the maximum daily charge drops to Euro 8.65.
If you are planning to stay away for more than five days, there is a cheaper option available, but this situated further away from the terminal buildings. However, a convenient shuttle bus service operates between the long-term parking facilities and the terminal buildings.
These free of charge mini busses take passengers with luggage from the relevant parking to their departure point and vice versa. The bus stops are covered, should the weather be less than the usual sunny skies promised in the holiday brochure. These mini busses are also equipped to take disabled passengers in wheelchairs and the short-term, long-term and paid public areas all have designated disabled parking spaces.
Motorists will see a number of signposts directing them to the long-stay parking area and once they get to the airport a service road will take them directly to the long-term parking at Mallorca Airport. The rates are charged per day and parking areas are monitored by CCTV. Parking spaces for long-term parking can be booked in advance by email or telephone.
