Located at the east coast of Mallorca, the resorts of S’Illot and Sa Coma are part of the municipality of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar.
Practically half way between the more famous neighbours of Cala Millor and Porto Cristo, the two resorts are approximately a 2 hour drive (or 65 km mainly on the Ma-15) by rental car from Palma de Mallorca and Son Sant Jon International Airport, where several well known car rental providers are based.
While Sa Coma is a purpose built, modern tourist resort, S’Illot is a charming, traditional fishing village with a protected Punta de n’Amer headland for bird watchers and walkers, a pedestrianized promenade and a small number of vibrant bars. The main evening entertainment is, apart from being by the sea, provided by the hotels and the resort is far quieter and family orientated than the modern, livelier neighbour Sa Coma.
Cala Millor is just a 5 minute drive away and here holidaymakers will find all the usual trappings of Spanish tourist resorts - from a plethora of shops to karaoke bars, night clubs and other entertainments.
S’Illot does have a Golf Paradis mini golf complex, where enthusiasts will find a choice of three distinctly different mini golf courses, all with 18 holes. The complex is lovely, with lush “tropical” gardens, waterfalls, lakes, swaying palm trees and, unusually so, a windmill.
Close by is another family attraction, the Auto Safari Zoo, which is located on the outskirts of Sa Coma on the route to Cala Millor. Visitors can either go around the complex in their rental car or use the Zoo’s mini-train to circuit the 4 km safari terrain.
Given the presence of inquisitive and rather destructive monkey residents, taking the train on this occasion may be the better option. There is a courtesy bus which runs from Sa Coma and from Cala Millor to the Safari Park.
